Steroid use is front page right now in both the U.S. and worldwide. Big names in professional sports have rumored, or admitted to using steroids bulk to their bodies and improve their game. Our teenagers look like models and it is sad that our teens let you down. When they see their favorite athlete on steroid use, believe that if everything is fine for these stars, it's okay for them too.

Few realize what some of the side effects are terrible for those who use anabolic steroids. Some teens discover too late and the damage is irreparable or they are dead. Yes, it's that serious!

Anabolic steroids are synthetic substances that promote the growth of skeletal muscle and is related to the male hormone testosterone. There are more than 100 known steroids that have developed since I first discovered in 1930. They were found to be effective in building skeletal muscle in laboratory animals and was first used by weightlifters and bodybuilders. It caught on with other athletes and is so prolific that it has been know to affect the outcome of sports.

The forensic use of these steroids are used to treat some of impotence, delayed puberty, and help the body fight diseases such as wear HIV infection. These steroids are illegal in the United States, but are smuggled into the country and sold by drug dealers. Steroid use can affect a good part of the body of a teenager.

Users of using steroid injections as a means of obtaining the substance in the body. Often you are not careful and non-sterile injections use or share needles with other addicts.

Manufactured steroids are often made in environments that are not sterile and it puts users at risk added. Hepatitis B and C, HIV and other viral infections can be injected into the body with non-sterile needles. Infections can be formed at the injection sites and cause abscesses to form. A potentially fatal side effect is endocarditis is a bacterial infection that causes inflammation of the lining of the heart.

Steroid use has also been linked to liver tumors and blood filled cysts in the liver. If these break as they sometimes do, cause internal bleeding, other potential life threatening.

Steroids affect the cardiovascular system. The abuse can cause heart attacks and strokes. These may affect all athletes, including adolescents.

There have been many reports of teenagers who have died from taking steroids. Steroids reduce the levels of good cholesterol, and increase the bad cholesterol that can increase the risk of blood clots that stop blood flow to the heart or brain and be fatal.

Steroid use can cause skin problems such as acne and cysts. You can also have oily skin and hair.
